The Trophy

"The trophy doesn't reflect the winning. The trophy reflects the huge amount of effort put in by each individual for the competition. It reflects the fusion of these efforts. It reflects the team spirit. But most importantly, it reflects the tenacity, altruism and the close friendship and trust each person has with the other. Winning together after a long hard journey of sweat and tears...it's definitely an unforgettable moment.

Watch the full video and you might understand, although no one will until he goes through it himself.

This happened before on 3 March, 2006. Lets make it happen again on 6 March 2010. Homeground. FDC 2010.

Bring it On people!!"

Yours Truly

Week 8 Training

Hi all,

There will be training next week as usual, on Monday (2/11) and Wednesday (4/11), same place. Timing will be after school + 15 min (and 30 min lunch if applicable) - timing will be confirmed over the weekend.

If you do not come for these trainings without a valid excuse WITH proof, your ranks will be at stake (i.e. not get promoted, ranks obtained during POC will be confiscated), as there will be very important stuff done and covered during these two trainings.

It's after EOY, so you probably have nothing much to do anyway.
Briefings for further events during the holidays will be done during the two trainings.

And yes, I am NOT joking about the ranks thing.

See you next week :)

Change of Guards Along Orchard Road

Hi all!

For those of you who wish to take a break from mugging, and see some cool Drills and Fancy drills in action, come down to the SAF Change of Guards. Its basically a procession where the new guards of the Istana (where the President dwells) take over the old guards for the new month. You'll get to see them march for about 1-2km along Orchard Road to the Istana, and see the ceremony in action, together with a spectacular fancy drill performance.

Date: 4 October (Sunday)
Time: 5:30pm (Ceremony starts exactly at 5:45pm)
Starting Place: The road in between The Paragon and Grand Park Orchard
How to go there: Take MRT to Somerset Station and walk.

Ending Place: The Istana (nearest MRT station is Dhouby Ghaut)
Ending Time: 6:15pm (approximate)

Just a little cool fact: Hadi will be there riding the Military Police Bike escorting the parade, so you finally see what he does in NS. =D

Its for the public, so bring your family and friends, or come together as a platoon or batch if you wish! Good opportunity to see good footdrill, so hope you'll take a look!

Some excerpts:

You'll be there..in NS..one day..no one can run away muahaha

Dying from laughter...

Some people are just too funny...

Beach Story

Batch 57 at the beach
Wah, Sheng Yang sir so tall liao

Had enough of seniors harping on "batch unity"? Have you been pondering about what it's like to be in a batch?

What is a batch anyway?

We've asked ourselves these questions too when we were cadets. There is no definite answer (this isn't Physics RA!), and all of us can only arrive at a conclusion after some reflection and thought...

What is a beach?

This is the spoof that we came up with when we too were faced with the question of being in a batch. Apparently, it seemed that we were rather dismissive of this entire "batch" business. We hope that everyone (Batch 59 and Batch 60) can get together and work as a batch and as a UNIT!

Who's "we" anyway? We are Batch 58, and we have our fair share of new experiences to learn from. We trust that you too will have much to learn from, cherish and remember in your years in RI, and RIRC.

Here's some interesting stuff related to beaches, while we're here o.o

----

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realise that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.

More stuff

Hi all,

We forgot to thank two very important groups of people in the previous posts, endless apologies for that ;x

Anyway, thanks to those who were doing first aid duty at the marathon/basketball games, as well as everyone who came down to support. Wouldn't have been possible without you guys :)

Cheers!

UNITY and other matters

Wear your UNIT-TEE with pride!

Once again, THANK YOU to Batch 57 for coming back to participate, as well as everyone in the unit who has come down to participate in and support the half-marathon/basketball competitions :)

Even though this race is over (well so is basketball o.o), there will always be other "races" to run, such as FACOM2009, and the ominous countdown timer to beat (it's in the sidebar) =O

Remember: All cadets promoted in principle must clear the required accreditations for full promotion by November 17, otherwise their "in principle" ranks will be voided.

Let's do it! Once again, good luck for your EOYs. If you need help and advice, you can always email Batch 58 at the email at the top of the sidebar.

BRING IT ON!

That's all for now. Jiayous for EOYs everyone!

Good Job!

Hi all,

Well, probably we did not succeed in today's mission of getting at least top 3. However, let the Sec 3s share our experience and comments of today. Firstly, no matter what, we still tried. That's what matters most. Yes, I know winning is the most important thing but you know something even more important than that?

UNIT-Y. You can go see the other UGs' performance today at the basketball tournament. They were shouting at each other for not catching the ball, not scoring, etc, etc. We as RIRC however, only encouraged. We cheered our hearts out for our players and even if we did something wrong, we just ignored that and went on with the game. We were not biased and just choose Sec 4s and Sec 3s and spam them in the tournament like what the other UGs did. We gave a chance to every Sec 1 who was there, even those who just finished their run in the marathon.

No matter what, we are still the best unit even though we are not that good in fitness. We have not been given opportunities to show to the school our talent in other skills such as FA, Evac and FD. Even if we cannot show them to our school, we can definitely show it to other RC units. That's why let's aim higher. We are more well known as RIRC than a UG. So, let's compete with other RC units and show them who we are! First mission, FACom. So, let's wish the best of luck to the FACommers and hope they become champions.

(Extra note: Due to the recent loss in the marathon or tournament, other UG people might start teasing us and so on. If that happens, just be calm and ignore that person. Those people do not know about the EUA and CSA which we got for 9 years. Those people do not know that we are the champions of Arts Fest. Those people do not know that if not for us, there will be no one to treat his injury. Though we might want to argue against him, we have to accept defeat. So, just be calm and do mug for your EOYs and beat Jeremy sir.)

Show them who we are!

Hi all,

As you all know tomorrow is the inter-UG half marathon and the basketball tournament too. In case the Sec 1s do not know, last year we only came in within the top 6 for the inter-UG half marathon. This year we should at least be in top 1. Surprised? Well, why not? Aren't the other participants humans too? Aren't they from secondary level too? Think about it. Okay, okay, to make it more fair, we should at least be in the top 3. We should own the other UGs in both the half-marathon and the basketball tournament.

Everyone should regret for thinking that RED CROSS was a weak CCA. They should regret throughout their lives on the great mistake they did in thinking that we were useless. SHOW THEM WHO WE ARE and tomorrow the championship is ours.

Good luck to those taking part in both the Half Marathon and Basketball and gaining glory for our UG =) everybody is required to come down, if not running, to support and encourage, attendance is compulsory. Report as per normal training (i.e. Raja Foyer at 3:30pm.)

Take note of the following CIP Dates:
26 Sept (1pm-5pm)

It is undecided whether the former will be a Home visit or a newspaper collection. More info will be given soon. Teachers are still deciding :S

Sec 2s interested in RCYC
the first Contact Session will be on 12 Dec, and the camp will be on 17th-20th Dec. It is a super fun camp, and the top 10% will even be awarded with the lanyard! Woohoo! You can even interact with others from other units! For those interested, you can approach Saravanan or call him at 82302600 or email him at riwarrior@hotmail.com.

As mentioned in the earlier post, the attendance today was very good, with Sec 1s achieving full attendance. Keep it up! However, for those that did not come for the Games Day last Saturday due to reasons other than parents not allowing your to come, please hand in your excuse letter/MC into the sickbay letter rack or pass it to Jason on Wednesday. The same goes for Monday's training.

That's all for now! Remember to check back often!

Hey guys, today's the start of Term 4!

Whoohoo Batch 60's attendance today rockz0red! Keep it up:)
By the way we'll be updating you all soon on the schedule for Term 4, so that the ppl who didn't come today dun have to copy their friends' notes.

Also, we won't be calling you all Sec 1s or Sec 2s anymore, we'll start calling you by batch number to reinforce batch unity. Yay!

Also, hope everything that Hadi sir said today left an impact on you to strive for the best, all-champions is not an impossible task if we work together! Whatever happens in November Camp will decide what happens to RIRCC005 for next year, and this Nov Camp will definitely change you forever! From what we saw from this training, it looks like everyone is going, so mark this date on your calendar and don't let anything block it out: 24-26 November 2009 - the best three days of your life!

Also we're gonna have a "Photo of the Week" posted every week somewhere between Mondays and Wednesday so that our blog won't so "texty". We've added a new section on the left "Categories" section too so you can just click on the link to see the latest photo.

Here's this week's:

Haha

Hope to see you guys up for a rocking start after the EOYs:)
